This is an animation I did for a fangame project I had going a while ago, but when my level artists jumped out on me I had to change styles, and am currently not fooling arround with another form of the project. The music is the Chaos Jam song from the awesome Virtual Sonic CD.

To bad people bailed out on ya, that's the big problem with working with a group of people :S
As for preloaders, you can take the cheap way, and go to newgrounds and grab the pre-made preloader that you can download from the flash submittion page. If you double click on it a few times you can put your own graphics in the preloader.
